Happy New Year to you all.
All the updated League Tables, League Match Results, averages, Cup news and newsletter (which includes outstanding league matches from the first half of season as well as a report on the recent tournament) are now posted here on our website.
It looks as if the summer and early season forays into the transfer market have worked well for Grundy Park in the Premier Division. New signings Dave Langham (20) and Paul Welhams (14) are both unbeaten this season. Cheshunt II and Hoddesdon II were both beaten 10-0 to leave Grundy Park four points ahead of champions Hoddesdon I with a match in hand. Hoddesdon defeated HRC I 7-3, John Barnes winning all three for the losers, but were then beaten 8-2 by County Hall who consolidated 4th place, eleven points behind Cheshunt I with two matches in hand.
The competitiveness of Division 1 was emphasised by two 5-5 draws. Trevor Anslow won all three as Grundy Park II drew with leaders Cheshunt III to remain two points behind. Barrie Mitchell won all three as Cheshunt IV drew at Pramastars to remain level with Grundy Park.
In Division 2 identical 7-3 victories for Hoddesdon III and Grundy Park III over Hoddesdon IV and Pramastars II respectively kept the former one point clear at the top. Three wins for Ron Barnes and Barry Waterman helped HRC III to an 8-2 win away at Cheshunt V and gave them a ten point lead over the bottom club, although Cheshunt still have two matches in hand.

HRC dominated the singles and doubles later stages at the recent tournament contested by thirty-five players, contributing five of the six finalists in the two competitions. In the singles, Neil Huatan and John Barnes defeated James Pugh and Ryan Bembridge respectively in the semi-finals with Neil then beating John in a close fought final. The doubles competition was even closer. Neil almost got to the doubles final, but he and Wayne Boddy were beaten in the semi finals by Debbie Evans and Alex Morreale, the only non HRC player in either of the finals. Their opponents were Dave Cocks and Faith Frankel who defeated Rita Rowe and Dave Blakes. The final could not have been closer with the scores at one set all and 20-20 when much to the obvious delight of Alex, Debbie hit the winning shot to secure the trophy.
All agreed it was a good night all round, even finishing by 11.15, an hour earlier than last year.
Once again, enormous thanks to Jo Swain for her organisation on the night that allowed everything to run so smoothly.
